CyanogenMod, the popular alternative Android installer, is partnering with OnePlus to create a smartphone called the OnePlus One. This horribly named handset will be OnePlus s first phone, and OnePlus hopes to launch it in the first half of this year.
Back in February, Facebook announced it was buying WhatsApp for $19 billion. This was a surprising move, given WhatsApp s reputation for ensuring privacy and Facebook s not-so-great reputation for privacy, but the two companies insisted that WhatsApp would remain independent, ad-free, and committed to privacy.
Ahead of its release back in March, Titanfall was rumored to have helped Microsoft sell as many as 1 million Xbox Ones. That rumor was never confirmed nor denied, but now we know how many copies of Titanfall sold last quarter, and it looks like the rumor is at least plausible. According to NPD numbers cited by COO Peter Moore, EA sold 925,000 copies of Titanfall last quarter. These numbers don t include digital sales bought from EA s Origin PC service or from the Xbox One dashboard. They also don t include worldwide sales.

Microsoft is dropping support for Windows XP on April 8th, and with 95% of all ATMs still running XP, this could become a major problem for any banks that haven t signed agreements to keep support running past the deadline. And today, we learned of an ATM attack that could be easily fixed if the ATMs update to Windows 7 or 8: According to Symantec, attackers have found a way to steal money from ATMs using SMS messages. Symantec first noticed this attack late last year, when the attacks were happening in Mexico. In a blog post on Monday, it noted that a new variant of the malware, called Ploutus, had been translated to English.
For years, Apple pundits favorite game was to guess when the iPhone would finally support NFC, or Near Field Communication. If only Apple would support NFC, then mobile payments would take off, and we could finally stop paying cash and credit cards. But Apple never did support NFC and it appears it made the right decision: According to GigaOm, major retailers Best Buy and 7-Eleven are ditching their NFC sensors in their stores.
Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, criticized the NSA and hinted at future leaks in a Skype interview at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. Assange, who is holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, did not give any details about what would be included in future leaks. He also blasted the Obama administration for its weak response to the NSA leaks by Edward Snowden.
