Happy for Flipkart, but in reality it’s failure on part of eBay in India

Yesterday, Flipkart finally announced that it was acquiring eBay India. Through my early years of online shopping, there was just one credible name in India, and that was eBay. Along with me, quite a few of my friends seemed to trust eBay more than Baazee. In 2004, eBay acquired Baazee and eBay India was born. In the true sense, e-commerce in India was born. More →

WhatsApp to enable digital payments in India: After Truecaller, WhatsApp UPI integration on the cards

Ever since the Indian government's decision to demonetize the economy by withdrawing higher denomination currency notes, Indians has been through a rather topsy turvy journey. On one hand there were calls to weed out black money. On the other, there was a firm call to adapt digital modes of transactions. It’s interesting though, because what was once a cash driven economy is rising up to the cause. We now have well over a dozen modes of transactions. Last month, Truecaller introduced Truecaller 8 for Android which, in addition to identifying spam callers and unknown contacts, also allowed users to transact with each other using NPCI’s UPI platform.  More →

Experts attributed the rush to capitalise on opportunity as the primary cause for ignoring critical checks with the Samsung Galaxy Note. And the rest is history. More →

Internet privacy is a figment of our imagination, and that’s what US Senate ruling teaches me

Internet privacy is a figment of our imagination, and that’s what US Senate ruling teaches me

I live in India. Am an Indian by nationality, residency and citizenship. I don't see a direct connection with matters of the US, besides amusing news reports that keep cropping up. For that matter, I do not see a direct impact on my life from the developments of the US Senate. Or so I think. On Thursday, the US Senate just made it easier for any internet service provider in the US to share sensitive information about their users. More →

Reliance Jio vs Airtel: Competition has moved beyond business, into squabbling

We love our YouTube. We love our movies. Our music. As long as we have access to these, we're at peace. We don't care how we get to enjoy our movies, TV shows or music. The source is immaterial. Internet connectivity is life. As long as our senses are titillated, we're fine. Switch on the TV or browse through the internet, and you're bound to come across ads from either Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone or Idea Cellular on how their network is the best, and how their data network is the best. That's healthy competition. And is much needed.  More →

Samsung Bixby: If done well, it might leave people impressed yet again

You know you have a powerful product from the attention it receives. A few months ago, Samsung was in the news for the wrong reasons. But I truly believe the worst is in the past. Sure the spate of reports and incidents around exploding batteries of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 isn't something we would ever want to experience or linger around for too long. More →

Thank you Facebook, for taking the first step in securing my data

Facebook has been facing heat over data privacy for quite some time now. Well, Facebook has been generally facing heat. But if we have to specifically pin it down to data and privacy, then one concern largely looming is how enforcement authorities have access to everything we post on Facebook. More →
