    Qualcomm to invest $8.5 million for expanding its design initiatives in India

    Global chip maker Qualcomm on Monday announced investment of $8.5 million for expansion of its design initiatives in India, which would primarily include funding its Innovation Labs at Hyderabad and Bangalore. A portion of the investment earmarked for design initiatives will also be utilized for its Design in India Challenge 2017, a program that nurtures promising start-ups in the country. The Qualcomm Design in India Challenge II will support companies in the areas of Rural technology, Biometric Devices, Payment Terminals, Agri-Technology, Medical Technology and Smart Infrastructure.     Card-based transactions reached 85% post demonetization: SBI

    The second largest credit card player SBI Card said post-noteban, the total spends on its cards have increased by 25-30 percent, despite fall in certain segments like fuel, jewellery and other discretionary spending. "Total spending on our cards increased post- demonetization by 25-30 percent. But in some categories like fuel, jewelry and discretionary spending came down," SBI Card chief executive Vijay Jasuja told reporters here today. More →

    Tech Mahindra to hire over 100 engineers for its new centre in Dublin

    IT services company Tech Mahindra plans to hire over 100 engineers in a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Dublin that would focus on robotics and automation, business analytics, cloud infrastructure and digital services. The CoE will service customers within as well as outside Ireland, particularly Europe, Bhushan Patil, Senior Vice President of Tech Mahindra told PTI.     After BJP knocked doors of Election Commission, Uttar Pradesh government today stopped registration of Samajwadi Party's smartphone distribution scheme. As the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the state, the registration of SP smartphone scheme that was open upto January 31 has been stopped, Special Secretary, IT and Electronics, Surendra Vikram said.     Vodafone launches its 4G services in Chandigarh

    Telecom major Vodafone today announced the launch of its Vodafone SuperNet 4G service here. The service was launched by sporting legend Milkha Singh here. Starting with Chandigarh today, the Punjab capital, the SuperNet 4G will shortly be rolled out across major towns and cities of the state by March 2017, Vodafone India Operations Director Arvind Vohra said on the occasion.     BSNL launches mobile TV service ‘Ditto TV’, Fixed Mobile Telephony service

    In a bid to meet competition from private telecom operators, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today announced mobile TV service 'Ditto TV' and limited fixed mobile telephony, an app that virtually turns mobiles into cordless phone working in sync with landlines within home premises. BSNL claimed the latest limited Fixed Mobile Telephony (FMT) service is "different" from the contentious Fixed Mobile Telephony service it announced last year but was forced to put on hold following a vehement opposition from cellular operators.
