    Meizu has added another smartphone to its budget lineup, the Meizu E2. The smartphone is a China-specific device and unlikely to launch in other markets. Most specifications of the device had leaked well before the launch. The TENAA certification barely a day before the launch revealed almost everything about the device. Pricing of the Meizu E2 starts at 1,299 RMB, Rs 12,000 approximately. The smartphone is available in three color variants – Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold and Black.  More →

    Mobile phones could get more expensive as government mulls customs duty on mobiles after GST implementation

    Imported mobile phone and electronics could cost more thanks to the addition of customs duties post implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) regime. After GST, the present excise duty which stands at 1 percent is likely to be waived off, but the government is considering implementing customs on imported electronics that might drive the price up by 10-15 percent. The government has been pushing manufacturers to shift production to India for domestic and export demand under the 'Make in India' scheme, and may use this to further push this.  More →

    Apple to shift from OLED to micro-LED displays; should Samsung, LG be worried?

    Apple has traditionally sourced display panels for most of its devices from the likes of Samsung and LG. However, post the acquisition of LuxVue, a technology firm working on the development of micro-LED displays in 2015, the foundation for shift from traditional OLED displays to more advanced micro-LED displays was laid.     New iOS Control Center bug causes Apple iPhones to crash or restart

    Recently, a new bug was found in iOS that causes iPhones to crash. The bug is not a major one and is unlikely to affect most users. The issue is linked directly to Apple Control Center. So far, the bug has been found in iPhone 5s, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. This bug is also restricted to only those iPhones that run on iOS 10.3.1. Interestingly, there have been no reports of this bug affecting the Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus or iPads for that matter.  More →

    Sennheiser teams up with Samsung to bring 3D audio to Android

    At CES earlier this year, Sennheiser unveiled the AMBEO 3D Smart Earbuds that support 3D audio. The technology is believed to be the closest to how human ears function and has higher potential use cases in the AR/VR segment. Sennheiser has already partnered with Apple to provide 3D audio experience to iOS users. However, the reach of Android being much wider when it comes to smartphones, Sennheiser is now looking to the market with a partnership with Samsung.  More →

    Google Play Awards are scheduled for May 18 during Google I/O 2017. Here, Google will be choosing the best Android apps across multiple categories. This year Google has added four new categories, taking the total up to 12. Google shortlists the apps on the basis of their ratings on the Play Store, performance, relative freshness, and how regularly they are updated.     Reliance Jio user base crosses 108 million; to add 100,000 new mobile towers

    Reliance Jio has revealed that it has over 108.9 million active and registered users as of March 31. Jio had crossed the 100-million mark the company crossed in February, making it the first Indian telecom operator to reach a subscriber base of 100 million users in less than six months of launch.  More →
