Vodafone India has announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2013 and revealed that the operator has generated service revenue at Rs 3,56,101 million this year, resulting in the revenue growth of 10.6 percent from that recorded last year. The operator says that this growth is mainly accounted by the increase in the usage of voice and data services. (more…)Google+

Vodafone India has introduced special international roaming plans for its customers travelling to other countries including UK, the USA, Singapore, UAE, amongst others. The plans are applicable for 45 countries and a few of these plans include up to 90 percent of discount on data charges and close to 64 percent of rebate on outgoing calls on international roaming. By orders of the East District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Airtel is set to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to a customer for providing faulty service, reports PTI. The network operator is said to have provided a faulty Internet connection to Delhi-based lawyer J K Mittal and despite a series of complaints didn’t take the necessary action to rectify the problem. Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications is reportedly planning to migrate its voice-oriented customers on GSM network and convert the CDMA spectrum mainly for data services. This move will be taken to free the CDMA spectrum from the voice centric customers, and instead reserve it for high speed wireless internet services to accelerate revenue generation, reports NDTV. In order to promote CDMA, Reliance has tied up with Lenovo for CDMA smartphones, and is still in talking phase with other vendors. (more…...

Vodafone India has moved the High Court to file a petition against the Department of Telecom for not taking any action in order to extend the operator’s licenses for Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata circles. Vodafone had asked the DoT for extension of its licenses which are set to expire in November 2014, but the government has instead directed the operator to bid for the airwaves, going by the terms of the new National Telecom Policy. Following our report today, Reliance Communications has announced the increase in tariffs by as much as 20 percent for its special vouchers across India. Further to this, the company has also raised tariffs of the promotional and concessional offers by 65 percent, cutting down the offered calling minutes to a great extent. Customers of Reliance Communications’ services will soon be paying more for the discounted coupons on voice calling plans/ data plans, or in some cases be getting lesser benefits on these unlike earlier. In a deal believed to be around $1.26 billion, Qatar Foundation Endowment has bought a 5 percent stake in Bharti Airtel, reports WSJ. This deal will allow the non-profit organization owned by the Gulf state’s royal family to subscribe to 199.9 million new shares of the network operator. (more…)Google+

Bharti Airtel has revealed that the operator service provider will take hold of the remaining 30 percent stake in Warid Group’s telecom operations in Bangladesh. After introducing a number of smartphones under its Aurus brand, Idea Cellular now has launched a new smartphone called the Whiz. The new device features a 4-inch WVGA display and a 1GHz dual-core processor and is priced at just Rs 7,850. Apart from this it has 512MB of RAM, and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
