By orders of the East District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Airtel is set to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to a customer for providing faulty service, reports PTI. The network operator is said to have provided a faulty Internet connection to Delhi-based lawyer J K Mittal and despite a series of complaints didn’t take the necessary action to rectify the problem. In a deal believed to be around $1.26 billion, Qatar Foundation Endowment has bought a 5 percent stake in Bharti Airtel, reports WSJ. This deal will allow the non-profit organization owned by the Gulf state’s royal family to subscribe to 199.9 million new shares of the network operator. (more…)Google+

Bharti Airtel has revealed that the operator service provider will take hold of the remaining 30 percent stake in Warid Group’s telecom operations in Bangladesh. The Supreme Court has banned Bharti Airtel from providing 3G roaming services to new customers in seven circles – Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh East and Kerala – where the operator has been providing 3G services on the basis of intra-circle roaming pacts with Idea Cellular and Vodafone. We had recently reported about the Department of Telecommunication ordering Bharti Airtel to withdraw its 3G services from 7 circles and also slapped the network carrier with a fine of Rs 350 crore. According to a report on TheHindu, DoT has now turned its attention towards Idea Cellular and Vodafone India who have both been sent notices for allegedly providing 3G services in unlicensed circles. Bharti Airtel has been under the hammer again as the Delhi High Court has pulled the stay order, which now permits the Department of Telecommunications to stop the operator from providing 3G services in seven circles where it does not hold the license to provide 3G. Bharti Airtel is speculated to be ordered by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to stop providing its 3G services in seven circles within next fifteen days according to a report by ET. Vodafone India has also joined in Indian telecom operators – Airtel and Aircel, in a demand for getting revenues from the Internet Service players like Google and Facebook.
