Google Glass can be hacked up to the level that one can even void its warranty. Google confirmed this at Google I/O . Inspite of this, two of Google’s software engineers, Hyunyoung Song and P.Y. Laligand led the “Voiding Your Warranty: Hacking Glass,” session to show how Glass users could root their devices to run Android apps and do more with the software. Google’s Glasses were the topic of discussion on Thursday at Google I/O as the search giant announced as many as six new apps for its wearable device, Reuters reports. Google made some major announcements during Google I/O a couple of days ago, but notably it chose not to announce a new version of Android, nor did it announce a Nexus branded device. In the lead up to Google I/O a number of white Nexus 4s were leaked, but even this was not announced. Last night, a day after openly discussing his voice issues, Google’s CEO Larry Page surprisingly took the stage at the I/O to bring the Keynote to a close. Google has announced a lot of new products at Google I/O and as expected it has also unveiled an update to its Maps. Google maps team has worked from the scratch to give a completely new look to the Maps, which also happens to be the first major design overhaul for the web interface ever since its launch almost eight years back. Google today announced a major update for Google+ Photos at the I/O today, which introduces new tools to make selecting, editing and uploading photos easier and more streamlined. In the last few months we have reported multiple times that Google was planning to integrate voice search in the Chrome as underlying code was found in the browser. At Google I/O Amit Singhal, the head of search at Google officially announced that Chrome will get voice search, what Google likes to call conversational search. We were expecting Google to make some changes to Google+, and today at the Google I/O Vic Gundotra, Senior VP, Google has announced a facelift to its social service. The new version has a redesigned interface, with photos and videos spanning over three columns. Almost magazine like, abandoning a standard stream that the user has to keep scrolling. (more…)Google+

The rumor mill was buzzing in the lead up to Google I/O about Google unifying its all its messaging services and today the company has exactly done that. Google has announced Hangouts, a cross platform service that combines all of Google’s various messaging services, which works across devices running Android, iOS and also the desktop. This service will eventually replace Google Talk, the Google+ messenger and the Hangout video chat service. (more…)Google+

Google has announced a new development environment for Android called Android studio. Google was very vague about the changes made to the app development environment, but some of the big features include layout tools that will help developers make apps that scale properly across a number of form-factors, especially tablets.
