Apple and Samsung are at odds over patents. You might have read about it. In numerous courts, in numerous states, in numerous countries on numerous continents, the pair continue to file complaint after complaint. Apple says Samsung builds copycat devices that steal design elements from its iPad tablet and iPhone smartphone. Hot on the heels of the availability of Samsung Galaxy Tab P750 (Galaxy Tab 10.1), Motorola has slashed prices of its XOOM Android tablet in India. Now, the 32GB Wi-Fi version is available for Rs 29,990 and the 32GB 3G variant for Rs 35,990. The 16GB version of the Galaxy Tab P750, on the other hand, is available for approximately Rs 35,000. As expected, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab 750 (Galaxy Tab 10.1) and Galaxy Tab 730 (Galaxy Tab 8.9) in India. Both the Tabs come with HSPA+ connectivity, 16GB of internal memory, 2.0 MP front and 3.0 MP rear cameras, nVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz processor, 7,000 mAh battery and 1GB of RAM. The Tab 750 tips the scales at 565 grams and the Tab 730 at 465 grams and are thinner than the iPad 2 at 8.6 mm. The Galaxy Tab 750 is priced at Rs 36,200 and the Tab 730 at Rs 33,990. Google announced on Friday that it has improved the search experience for users accessing www.google.com from a tablet. Search results are now simplified and text, buttons and other areas are now larger and easier to tap. In addition, Google has created larger image previews, faster loading thumbnails and has a new continuous scroll feature. The BGR team picked up the new and improved Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Google’s I/O conference earlier this week, and I have been using it non-stop for the past few days. There’s a lot to discuss here: the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the third Android Honeycomb-powered tablet launched by a major OEM in the United States, and Samsung went to great lengths to revise the design and slice off the extra bulk. When we sat down with Samsung yesterday to check out the new Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the improved and thinner Galaxy Tab 10, we were alerted that its TouchWiz UX user interface is the first custom UI on top of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. While it won’t ship on any of the Galaxy Tab family of tablets right away, Samsung does plan to issue an update that applies TouchWiz UX down the road a bit — in fact the new UI should wind up on all of the Galaxy Tab tablets in the near future.
