Buying an iDevice is just the beginning. What really begins is a cycle of buying new accessories, mostly to protect the iGadget and at times to improve its functionality. With me it is usually about iPad cases and covers. In the past two-and-a-half years of owning all the three generations of the iPad, I have spent a fortune on iPad cases, which could have easily got me another iPad. The obsession continues to this day. My current favorite is the Capdase Canvas Folio case that fits the iPad 2 as well as the n...

Apple might have slashed the price of only the iPad 2 16GB in the US (and India), making many (including us) conclude it had discontinued the 32GB and 64GB variants. However, it seems like a grey area at the moment and we are not sure whether Apple is phasing them out or discontinuing them as we now have official slashed prices of the iPad 2 32GB and 64GB variants. The 32GB Wi-Fi only will now cost Rs 30,500 (down Rs 4,000) and 3G version will cost Rs 38,900 (down Rs 3,000). The 64GB Wi-Fi only is now priced a...

Yesterday’s Apple earnings call had way too many gems, courtesy CEO Tim Cook, that we are still reporting tid-bits from the call. Take for instance, Cook’s response to a query on how low-cost tablets, especially Amazon’s Kindle Fire had an impact on iPad sales. Cook mentioned during the call that he had looked carefully at iPad sales number on a weekly basis after the Kindle Fire launch and is convinced it did not have any impact on iPad sales. He followed that with a barrage that one expect...

A few hours ago, TechCrunch‘s MG Siegler revealed Facebook’s iPad app that was hidden within the iPhone app. This is big news, especially after Mark Zuckerberg once remarked the iPad is not a mobile device and the only way to ‘officially’ access Facebook on the iPad was via Safari browser. Now it seems that Zuckerberg has had a change of heart and Facebook is about to launch an iPad-specific app. But how does one get the app before Facebook releases it on the App Store? Hit the jump to...

RCom today announced 3G plans for iPad 2 users. Subscribers can choose from three plans, one of which is a one day plan while others are monthly plans. The one-day plan is the most peculiar as it offers 1 GB of data for Rs 199 and is valid only till midnight and not 24 hours. The monthly plans are valid for 30 days and are available for 5 GB (Rs 752 on pre-paid and Rs 750 on post-paid) and 10 GB (Rs 1,100 on both pre-paid and post-paid). Hit the jump for a tariff table of these three plans. (more…)Googl...

We had always been under the impression that while one could use keyboards and even the odd stylus with the iPad and iPhone, pointing devices like mouses were supposed not to be compatible with the devices (Apple’s own Magic Mouse does not work with them). Well, it seems that we were wrong because Amkette have just released the Pearl Bluetooth mouse, which it claims “Works with new age tablets that do not have USB Ports” (the iPad and iPad 2 are specifically mentioned later in the release, a...

The iPad 2 went on sale in India today and initial reports indicate that most of the stores have run out of the limited units they had to offer within the first hour. Some stores still had a couple of units of the Wi-Fi version but we failed to find even a single unit of the 3G version where ever we checked in Delhi. Stocks are expected to be replenished sometime next week. While you wait for your turn, check out some images from iMagine stores in Saket (Delhi) and Andheri (Mumbai).Google+

Blogs were outraged Wednesday following the rediscovery that 3G-enabled iOS devices like the iPhone store a record of users’ GPS positions in a local file. Of course every person with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch agreed to let Apple store and use this information, but it’s much more fun to get outraged than it is to read terms and conditions. No matter — for those who don’t want their iPhones to remember that they were pillaging a Dunkin’ Donuts instead of working out at the gym, ...
