Apple has finally launched the new iPad Air and iPad mini in India. The iPad Air starts from Rs 39,500 for the base 16GB Wi-Fi only variant while the iPad mini starts from Rs 28,900. Sorry, Samsung: It looks like that additional $290 million still isn’t enough for Apple. FOSS Patents notes that Apple filed a motion this week asking Samsung to pay an additional $15.7 million to help cover Apple’s legal expenses, which the company says totaled more than $60 million over the duration of the patent trial. Samsung is already on the hook for more than $929 million in its patent dispute with Apple so from that perspective another $15 million doesn’t seem like all that much. (more̷...
If there were still any doubts left whether the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C would work on Airtel’s 4G network in Bangalore, here’s the confirmation directly from Apple. On Apple’s page for LTE support, the company has listed iPhone 5S (A1530 variant) and iPhone 5C (A1529 variant) as compatible with Airtel’s 4G LTE network in India. Apple is launching its new iPads in India tomorrow, breaking its tradition of launching new products on Friday. Strangely enough, the announcement press release only mention the prices of just the 16GB Wi-Fi only variants of both the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display, without mentioning the prices for other variants. RCom is planning to increase the price of its two-year contract plans for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The carrier is already grappling with stock shortage, especially of the iPhone 5S, which we are told has a big backlog. Apple’s $200 million purchase of Topsy prompted speculation earlier this week on what the iPhone maker may do with the analytics firm. Apple’s plans of expanding its presence in the country has hit a roadblock with Reliance Retail reportedly planning on shutting down 16 of its 20 exclusive Apple iStores in the country, The Economic Times reports. A new Apple patent describes a technology that uses face detection and recognition to activate certain features on devices including iPhones, iPads or Macs, AppleInsider reports. The feature would help Apple offer a more secure environment to iOS and OS X device users, as well as provide quick access to a personalized iPhone or Mac setup based on the face of the user.
