New Intel CEO creates a ‘new devices’ unit, to be headed by former Palm and Apple executive Mike Bell

After 40 years at the helm of Intel, Paul Otellini stepped down and Brian Krzanich was appointed as the CEO. In his opening speech, Krzanich mentioned that one of his key areas of focus will be the mobile device segment, though he didn’t delve deeper into his plans. Intel’s new CEO Brian Krzanich aims at the mobile device segment: Report

Intel’s new CEO Brian Krzanich, the successor of the Paul Otellini, has admitted that Intel has lagged behind in the smartphone and tablet race, and has also assured that the chipset maker will now be more focused towards this segment by advancing their chipsets technologies. According to a Reuters report, at the annual shareholder meeting held a day back, Krzanich said that under Otellini the company continued to concentrate in the PC processors and totally ignored the proliferating mobile device segment. ...

Intel’s outgoing CEO Paul Otellini says that an Intel chip could have been in the first iPhone

Today, is Paul Otellini’s last day as CEO of Intel, a company he has helmed since 2005 and in an extensive profile by TheAtlantic he revealed that an Intel chip could have been in original iPhone. It was revealed that Otellini personally decided against a deal that would have ensured an Intel chip inside the iPhone. Intel Silvermont 22nm SoC to power next-gen tablets

Intel calls the Silvermont as its biggest innovation and rightfully so. The new architecture is versatile enough to power microservers to desktops to tablets, and will have a major impact on its mobility plans. Intel appoints Brian Krzanich as its new CEO, to take charge on May 16

Back in November we had reported Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini would retire in May after 5 years at the helm, however the chipset vendor had not announced his successor. Lava Xolo X1000 hands on

Lava’s sub-brand Xolo has unveiled a new smartphone the X1000, which also becomes its third smartphone to run an Intel chipset. The X1000 is powered by the 2GHz version of Intel’s Medfield chipset that was previously seen in the Motorola Razr i. Lava Xolo X1000 launched in India for Rs 19,999, Brings Intel’s 2GHz Medfield chip to the table

Lava’s sub-brand Xolo has launched its third Intel powered smartphone in India – the Xolo X1000 for Rs 19,999. It is based on the first generation Intel Atom Z2480 processor codenamed Medfield that Intel released last year. Unlike the Xolo X900, this chipset is clocked at 2GHz with hyper-threading and was previously seen in the UK bound Motorola Razr i. This also fits perfectly with what we reported a few hours back. Intel could manufacture chips for Apple devices in the near future: Reuters

Intel launches new dual-core Atom CloverTrail + chips for smartphones and tablets at MWC

After teasing its latest generation Atom chips geared for smartphones, Intel has officially launched three new CloverTrail+ mobile chipsets – the Z2580, Z2560 and Z2520. The three chips are clocked at 2.0GHz, 1.6GHz and 1.2GHz respectively and all of them have twin cores. Intel combines these CPUs with PowerVR SGX 544 GPUs which make them more competitive than the Medfield chips it launched last year. Asus FonePad coming with Intel Lexington chip: Report

We have heard a number of rumours about a purported Asus tablet that will be named the FonePad.
