Bharti Airtel has added three more cities to its fourth generation network circle as it has today launched its prepaid and postpaid 4G services in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. The operator is already providing its 4G LTE services in Kolkata, Bengaluru and Pune. (more…)Google+

News is trickling in that Airtel has acquired 49 percent stake in Qualcomm’s 4G network unit in India. There had been indications that Airtel and Qualcomm were in talks. Qualcomm has 4G spectrum in key circles of Delhi and Mumbai apart from Haryana and Kerala. This would be crucial for Airtel for its ambitions to be a pan-India 4G network operator. It already operates 4G networks in Kolkata and Bangalore and has spectrum in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Punjab. Read on. (more…)Google+

Airtel has launched India’s first 4G TD-LTE network in Kolkata today. Airtel is claiming download speed of up to 100 Mbps and upload speed of up to 40 Mbps, though these would be the theoretical peak speeds. Airtel is launching its 4G LTE network in Kolkata tomorrow, but its website has already gone live, revealing tariffs and devices. Airtel is promising download speeds up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 40 Mbps, both of which would be theoretical peak speeds and not exactly what users will get. We are taking this one with a pinch of salt but The Economic Times is reporting that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is likely to offer LTE tablets for Rs 3,500 and will offer data plans as low as Rs 10 for 1GB. This is not the first time we are hearing about the Rs 3,500 tablet but paying Rs 10 for 1GB of data sounds a bit unrealistic (of course, we won’t mind).
