Nokia has been good with cameras in its high-end smartphones, in particular with its PureView 808 smartphone, which had a revolutionary 41-megapixel camera. When it comes to imaging in smartphones the next you think about is photo sharing and Nokia’s Symbian portfolio has been particularly lagging in this respect. The gallery lacked features with regards to sharing content on social networks. However, an update is being rolled out that makes sharing photos from the gallery to a social network much easier. This update is meant for all Symbian Belle feature pack 2 smartphones including the PureView 808, which also is officially the last Symbian device that Nokia will make.

The company has announced that the PureView and Belle FP2 phones are getting some major updates that include smooth sharing of images as well. So unlike earlier, when posting an image to twitter or Flickr would require the user to activate the Nokia Social feature, and would normally involve a few more steps. However, the new update will enable direct sharing of images resting in the phone gallery to these social networks. As per the company, the share menu option in the gallery setting will allow users to turn the default icon into Twitter instead of just Facebook, which comes pre-set in the device.

So we suggest all Nokia Symbian users to keep a checking for the update, as it will be available soon.

While Nokia is scheduled to host an official press conference in New Delhi in 12 hours from now to launch the phone, it is already available on Nokia India’s online store. The store shows it out of stock but we understand users can pre-book it for Rs 1,000.

The PureView 808 probably has the best camera we have ever seen on a smartphone. Touting a massive 41-megapixel camera sensor, Nokia uses over-sampling technology that merges seven pixels into one, giving unprecedented quality in 5-megapixel shots. The large sensor also captures more details than one would expect from a camera phone. Heck, we are already calling it our point-and-shoot camera replacement after playing with it for a few hours. It also captures excellent videos and Nokia is making noise about its Dolby Surround Sound technology while capturing audio and playback.

It runs on Nokia’s Belle platform and sports a 4-inch VGA display, which is not at par with what we are used to using on flagship smartphones. It also has 16GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot. Of course, it has most connectivity options like Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G and even an FM transmitter.

So what do you think about the PureView 808′s pricing?

Spotted by our friends at Unleashthephones, the page is currently counting down to a possible June 6 launch. There are no indications of pricing or any pre-bookings at the moment but we won’t be surprised if Nokia starts that in a couple of days.

The PureView 808 has a 41-megapixel camera sensor that oversamples seven pixels into one and gives the best photo results we have seen on a camphone ever. Unfortunately, it runs on Symbian operating system, but that does not seem to be a deal breaker for the Nokia faithful.

The phone has seen some false starts, the latest being its “dummy” price getting accidentally published on Nokia’s online store. Nokia had made a global announcement last month stating the PureView 808 will be launched in May starting from India and Russia. To be frank, we don’t care about a week’s delay. All we want to know is the price so we can probably replace our standard point-and-shoot camera with this beast of a thing.

The PureView 808 India launch has to be one of the most intriguing ones in recent times. The flip-flop continues with whether it has been launched in India or not and at what price. Hot on the heels of our report of it being available for Rs 29,999 on Nokia’s own online store, Nokia India has yanked the price information from the product page and is now simply saying it will be available soon.

We understand that the price information was put up accidentally and this was the same price that was present in the product’s page source code, which Nokia had claimed to be “dummy price.” It is now clear that Nokia has not launched the PureView 808, yet and in all probability it won’t be priced at Rs 29,999.

We know it is too confusing and hopefully Nokia would just launch the product and clear all the mess.

Nokia has already announced that India would be one of the first countries where the PureView 808 will be launched. However, it is yet to reveal the price or the launch date of the world’s first 41-megapixel camphone. Now the eagle eyes at Androsym have spotted the price in the page source information of the PureView 808 listing on Nokia India’s online store. Checking the source of the page, it looks like the PureView 808 would be priced at Rs 29,999. This would come as a sigh of relief to many who were looking forward to one of the best cameras we have ever seen on a phone after the device was listed on Nokia’s Italy website on pre-order for over Rs 40,000!

UPDATE: Nokia India has reached out to us with a statement regarding the PureView 808′s pricing. Read on…

UPDATE: Nokia India reached out to us to clarify the situation. The PureView 808 might not be priced at Rs 29,999 after all.

“On any website the source code has all elements the page will display. If we have to show a certain element now or later we have to put either actual value or dummy value on the page. In this case, since we will announce the price at a later stage hence there is a section which talks of the price in the source code and the same has a dummy value, which will be replaced later. This dummy price is not a reflection of the actual pricing of the product,” a Nokia India spokesperson told BGR India.
