By: Rajat Agrawal |Jul 24th, 2012 at 04:34PM
Filed Under: Accessories, Apple, News, Review, iPad 2 3G, iPad 3

Buying an iDevice is just the beginning. What really begins is a cycle of buying new accessories, mostly to protect the iGadget and at times to improve its functionality. With me it is usually about iPad cases and covers. In the past two-and-a-half years of owning all the three generations of the iPad, I have spent a fortune on iPad cases, which could have easily got me another iPad. The obsession continues to this day. My current favorite is the Capdase Canvas Folio case that fits the iPad 2 as well as the n...

One off the biggest pet peeves of iOS device naysayers is the absence of USB connectivity to transfer files to and from other devices. Well, that could be a thing of the past with the Photofast iFlashDrive, which was showcased at CES 2012. The iFlashDrive comes with a 30-pin connector at one end and a standard USB connector at the other. It comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB variants and works as a regular USB storage drive when connected to a PC. When connected to an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch) and coup...

Case manufacturer jumps the gun, shows off iPad 2S case

By: Rajat Agrawal |Jan 19th, 2012 at 01:29PM
Filed Under: Accessories, Apple, Rumors, Tablets

This is deja vu. Remember how every Apple case manufacturer showed off an ‘iPhone 5′ case before Apple’s announcement claiming the next iPhone will have a teardrop design and a larger display? Well, it is now time for the iPad edition of the same story. Burnt once, twice shy doesn’t seem to appeal to these case makers, it seems, as one Chinee has gone ahead and started peddling cases for the third generation of iPad, which is rumored to be announced in February. The company is claiming...

Windows developers around the world had cause for excitement Thursday afternoon as Microsoft finally released a beta version of its Kinect for Windows software development kit. As the name might imply, this new SDK will allow developers to build Windows software that makes use of Microsoft’s popular motion-based controller as a peripheral. The SDK obviously opens the door for Kinect-controlled Windows PC games, but we’re sure Windows developers will find plenty of creative ways to make use of the great te...

References to a fourth-generation Time Capsule and a fifth-generation AirPort Extreme have been found within Apple’s latest AirPort Utility software update. Dwindling inventory and several reports over the past few weeks have suggested that Apple is preparing to refresh the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule lines, and this new software update all but confirms the rumors. Also notable, references to software update caching have been found within the AirPort Utility update. This new feature will allow the devi...

By: Zach Epstein |Jun 10th, 2011 at 03:30AM

Following the World Health Organization’s revelation last week that cell phones are “possibly carcinogenic to humans based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer associated with wireless phone use,” Jabra has issued an easy fix: instead of putting a cell phone to your ear and possibly getting a brain tumor, use one of its Bluetooth headsets. Jabra says its headsets emit 800 times less radiation than cell phones — just 0.0025 watts max output compared to 2 watts max from ...

By: Jonathan S. Geller |May 16th, 2011 at 05:00PM
Filed Under: Accessories, Android, GoFlex, GoFlex Satellite, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, drive, external, iOS

We met up with Seagate last week to get a sneak peak at its brand new wireless mobile storage drive, the GoFlex Satellite. It’s a battery-powered external hard drive, though it’s not just a traditional drive — it can also stream any and all content wirelessly over Wi-Fi to any iOS or Android device, or even any Wi-Fi device with a browser. The premise is that since most mobile devices are limited in storage, you can load only what you really need on your iPad, for example, and have your entire m...

DigiTimes is citing a report from sznews.com today that three Foxconn employees have been arrested in Shenzhen, China for leaking the design specs of the iPad 2 to third-party case manufacturers ahead of the device’s launch. The three were allegedly arrested in December of last year and were charged in late March for the leaks. Foxconn grew suspicious of its own employees after accurate third-party iPad 2 cases began popping up on the market; the firm then asked local authorities to investigate. Foxconn...

By: Andrew Munchbach |Apr 5th, 2011 at 07:38PM
Filed Under: Accessories, Apple, Rumors, USB 3.0, display port, dock connector, dual-channel, schematic

Patently Apple reports that its Cupertino-based namesake has been granted a new patent for an improved 30-pin dock connector. The interface, which is used by Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPods, is slightly thinner and will be able to sherpa data over USB 3.0 and 2.0, and contain a dual-lane display port channel. The patents suggest that future versions of the company’s laptops, desktops, and mobile devices will utilize the new USB technologies — and that future mobile devices may be able to output t...

SRS iWOW 3D: The iPhone gets a swift kick in the buds

By: Zach Epstein |Mar 29th, 2011 at 12:04PM
Filed Under: Accessories, Apple, Audio, DSP, Review, SRS iWOW 3D, audio enhancer, iOS, iWOW 3D

If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have insisted that no ear buds in the sub-$1,000 price range sound better than my trusty Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi headset. I would have been wrong. I still insist that no buds I’ve tried sound better than my 10vi buds — and I have tried many, many pairs — but now I add the caveat, “when coupled with the iWOW 3D.” (more...)This post originally appeared on BGR.com
