Last night Google to the relief of Windows Phone 8 users announced that it was extending Exchange ActiveSync support for Gmail till July 31, from the earlier stipulated date of January 31. As it made this announcement Microsoft concurrently announced in a blog post that CardDav and CalDav support was in the works for Windows Phone 8 and this will allow users to sync their calendar and contacts with Google services using the IMAP protocol that is already built-in to the Windows Phone platform. Microsoft has been extremely coy about the Windows Phone 7.8 launch for the current Windows Phone 7.5 hardware. Ever since the launch of the Nokia Lumia 510, we’ve known pretty much everything about the OS as it has been powering some of the newer lower-end Windows Phones. Ever since Microsoft announced the update to Windows Phone 7.8 for the first generation Windows Phone hardware, people have been wondering about the actual feature set that will be available to end-users and when it will be available. We are live at Nokia’s press event in Delhi where it has officially announced the Lumia 510 in India, which has been spotted in the wild multiple times in the past month. Leading cloud storage service, Box, today released a Windows Phone version of its mobile app. Through the app, users can not only store and retrieve files from the service but also comment and read comments in case the files are shared with others. Nokia has started rolling out Windows Phone Tango update for the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 smartphones. Microsoft is now listing the Windows Phone Tango update for existing devices on its OS update history page. The page now lists Build 8773.98, which is shipping on the European variant of the Nokia Lumia 900. This update brings some minor tweaks to the table such as messaging, and SIM card contact. Nokia India hasn’t had much to talk about since the launch of the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 last December. That is reportedly set to change with the impending launch of the Lumia 900 and Lumia 610 in June. OnlyGizmos is reporting Nokia India is starting its sales team training for the two Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones in India this week and will be launched in June. Nokia is expected to roll-out an update for the Lumia 800 in the coming days that will update the phone OS to Windows Phone Tango. Nokia blew the pants off everyone at this year’s MWC when it announced the 808 PureView with its mind-numbing 41-megapixel camera sensor. We checked out the device ourselves recently and pretty convinced it is the best camera we have seen on a smartphone ever and might even choose it over a high-end stand alone point-and-shoot camera. Current crop of Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones apparently won’t get upgraded to the next version of Windows Phone 8 codenamed Apollo. The Verge citing its sources, claims that Microsoft has no upgrade path from Mango to Apollo.
