Samsung announces the ATIV S, the world’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone

Apart from the Galaxy Note II, Samsung has announced the ATIV S, which becomes the world’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The device has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display reinforced with Gorilla Glass II, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor which works in tandem with 1GB of RAM and it will be available in 16GB and 32GB flavors. Microsoft rebrands Windows Phone Marketplace to Windows Phone Store

It appears that Microsoft is on a simplification drive and in its quest of simplification it has renamed the Windows Phone Marketplace to the Windows Phone Store. Yesterday, the boys from Redmond sent out invites for a developer event called Windows Phone Developer Summit. This particular event will be held between June 20 and 21 in San Francisco, California. OEMs plead Microsoft to allow customization of Windows Phone 8 UI: Report

Windows Phone has always had a very intuitive and fluid UI, one which is less susceptible to fragmentation. However, handset OEMs have never seen it that way. When Nokia entered into its partnership with Microsoft for Windows Phone, software customizations were one of the prerequisites.
