Apart from the Galaxy Note II, Samsung has announced the ATIV S, which becomes the world’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The device has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display reinforced with Gorilla Glass II, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor which works in tandem with 1GB of RAM and it will be available in 16GB and 32GB flavors. It appears that Microsoft is on a simplification drive and in its quest of simplification it has renamed the Windows Phone Marketplace to the Windows Phone Store. Last month Microsoft had unveiled its Windows Phone 8 OS to the world. While it focused on showing some key platform features like the shared kernel with Windows 8, it did not elaborate on them in detail. For some time there have been reports regarding Microsoft adding a new type of a keyboard for Windows Phone 8, which will be tailored especially for single handed thumb usage. Yesterday, the boys from Redmond sent out invites for a developer event called Windows Phone Developer Summit. This particular event will be held between June 20 and 21 in San Francisco, California. Obviously, no one knows the importance of developers more than Microsoft and this could be one of the attempts the company is making to attract developer support for the Windows Phone ecosystem. Windows Phone has always had a very intuitive and fluid UI, one which is less susceptible to fragmentation. However, handset OEMs have never seen it that way. When Nokia entered into its partnership with Microsoft for Windows Phone, software customizations were one of the prerequisites. The situation is much worse than it seems to be as the DigiTimes is reporting that OEMs have urged Microsoft to allow more leeway in the customization of the Metro UI of Windows Phone 8. Looks like the guys at PocketNow have stumbled upon gold dust! In an exclusive story PocketNow has detailed all the critical features of Windows Phone 8, codenamed, Apollo, all thanks to a video featuring Joe Belfiore, VP of Windows Phone, who was showing off the OS to Nokia’s partners.
