Gionee today launched two new smartphones in India, the F205 and the S11 Lite, which are priced at Rs 8,999 and 13,999 respectively. While Gionee has been a brand with regular phone releases in its tenure, it seemed to take a hiatus after April last year when it launched the A1. And the last phone to come to India was the Gionee S10 Lite which was launched in December, which makes the present launches the only new phones from the company in a while.
When asked about how the company plans to tackle a market that is been dominated by other brands, Alok Shrivastava, Gionee India director, National Sales, told BGR India,”The other brands have had a significant presence in the market, but so have we in terms of what we have done in the last five years, and the smartphone category is growing rapidly and there is enough room for everyone.”
He added that for the price bracket of the phones launched today, the company plans to market the phones in a very physical manner and that would mean less telecast ads. But based more on the user feedback, through brand loyalists and campus activities.
Adding on what that company has done, Srivastava said, “It’s not a specs war, it’s not about the megapixels, it’s not about battery, it’s about the entire thing packaged together. That what we have done until now to give a good user experience.”
From Srivastava’s comment it may be concluded that Gionee has taken an about turn in its ideologies. Gionee from last year was a company that concentrated on phones with bigger batteries and selfie capabilities, as opposed to today.

When asked about the hiatus of the company from the market, as if to confirm this theory Srivastava said, “We were observing the market through the last year, we had to recalibrate our plans and rework the way we were approaching the market. Some might feel we were away from the market but we actually were not.”
Talking about the future plans, he said that the company has plans to launch about six phones before Diwali. These models would include the Gionee S11, M8 Power and an F205 lite which can be expected to launch in three to four months.
