MWC 2018 is just around the corner and brands such as Samsung, Nokia, Huawei, LG and others are all geared up to show off their latest innovations at the expo. HMD Global has already teased unveiling of new Nokia smartphones at the expo on February 25. The event is set to take place at 4PM CET, which is 8:30PM in India. Ahead of the launch, a lot has been leaked about various Nokia devices, and here’s a rumor roundup of everything that HMD Global could announce at the event.
It will likely be HMD Global’s most affordable Android offering running Google’s Android GO OS. The operating system has been optimized for low memory and storage devices. It is likely to feature a 5-inch HD display, 8GB onboard storage and about 1GB of RAM. With connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi, the smartphone is likely to ditch the capacitive Android navigation buttons and fingerprint scanner.
The Nokia 4 could be another affordable offering from HMD Global. It is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, but other details such as camera resolution, RAM, onboard storage are unknown. A previous leak hinted that the smartphone is likely to run Android One OS out of the box.
The smartphone was recently leaked via unofficial press renders, showing off a 6-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Nokia 7+ is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, an improvement over the Snapdragon 630 SoC on the Nokia 7.
With 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, leaked renders hinted at the smartphone running on Android 8.0 Oreo OS. We will come to know about other details when Nokia officially unveils the smartphone at MWC 2018.
Nokia 8 Sirocco
HMD Global recently filed a trademark for Nokia 8 Sirocco bearing model number TA-1005. This could be a hint that the company might be planning to unveil the smartphone at MWC 2018. There could be some under the hood upgrades compared to the Nokia 8 that was launched last year. Leaks indicate that the smartphone could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, just like other flagship smartphones of this year.
Based on the information that has surfaced so far, the Nokia 8 Sirocco could flaunt a 5.5-inch, QHD AMOLED display, and feature a dual-camera setup at the back. The camera setup is likely to include a ZEISS certified 12-megapixel sensor and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor. But there is no word on whether Nokia will go for an RGB and monochrome sensor, or a telephoto and wide angle lens. With a 5-megapixel front camera, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is expected to be IP67 certified for dust and water resistance.
The Nokia 9 could be HMD Global’s most premium offering so far with top of the line hardware and breakthrough camera technology. The alleged Nokia 9 smartphone was recently spotted in the wild showing off dual edge curved display, just like Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8.
It was reportedly a Nokia 9 prototype, where the user was testing the dual 13-megapixel camera setup. The smartphone is also likely to come with a 5.5-inch 18:9 display and run on Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box. Other information such as specifications, features, pricing and release date are unknown. Some rumors also hint at the Nokia 9 with a penta camera setup at the back.
Lastly, there are rumors about the global variant of the Nokia 3310 4G running a forked version of Android, but what HMD Global actually plans to announce at MWC remains to be seen.
