The price and data war between Reliance Jio and incumbent operators is far from over. Just when you thought plans couldn’t get any cheaper or offer more data, telcos have rolled out new plans with added benefits. Airtel recently revamped its plans to offer more data, and Jio was quick enough to revise its plans too. While Airtel’s plans are live, Jio’s new plans will come into effect starting January 26.
Reliance Jio’s plans offer unlimited local and national calling, unlimited roaming, along with unlimited SMS local and national SMS (cap of 100 per day). Jio also offers complimentary access to suite of apps, such as JioCinema, JioMusic and JioTV. Jio also offers unlimited internet, just that after the daily limited is hit, speed is throttled down to 64Kbps.
Airtel plans, on the other hand, also offer similar benefits. You get unlimited local and national calls, and unlimited SMS (cap of 100 per day). When it comes to calls, there is a daily cap of 250 minutes, and weekly cap of 1,000 minutes. After hitting the limit, Airtel-to-Airtel calls will be charged at 10 paise per minute, whereas calls to other operators will be charged at 30 paise per minute. Here’s a look at Reliance Jio vs Airtel plans and their benefits.
Reliance Jio Rs 149 plan vs Airtel Rs 149 plan
Jio’s Rs 149 plan offers high-speed 1GB daily 4G data with validity of 28 days. However, starting January 26, the plan will offer 1.5GB daily data. In comparison, Airtel’s plan offers 1GB daily 3G/4G data, with validity of 28 days. The plan previously offered unlimited Airtel-to-Airtel calls, but now it has been upgraded to offer unlimited local and national calls, along with unlimited roaming. There is, however, a small caveat here – the plan is only available in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circles.
Reliance Jio Rs 198 plan vs Airtel Rs 199 plan
Jio’s Rs 198 plan currently offers 1.5GB daily data, and after the revision, it will offer 2GB daily data with a validity of 28 days. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 1.4GB 3G / 4G daily data, with a validity of 28 days. Previously, the plan offered 1GB daily data.
Reliance Jio Rs 349 plan vs Airtel Rs 349 plan
Jio’s Rs 399 plan has been slashed to Rs 349, and offers 1.5GB daily data with 70 days validity. Airtel also has a similar plan priced at Rs 349 with 2.5GB daily data, but the validity is only 28 days.
Reliance Jio Rs 399 plan vs Airtel Rs 399 plan
With the Rs 399 plan, Jio users get 1GB daily data, with a validity of 84 days. Now, after the revision, the plan will offer 1.5GB daily data with the same 84 days validity. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 1GB daily data, and validity of 84 days, up from 70 days that it used to offer before.
Reliance Jio Rs 448 plan vs Airtel Rs 448 plan
Jio’s Rs 448 plan will offer users with 2GB daily data and 84 days validity. Airtel, on the other hand, also has a similar plan priced at Rs 448. The plan offers 1.4GB daily 3G/4G data and validity of 82 days.
Reliance Jio Rs 498 plan vs Airtel Rs 509 plan
The Rs 498 plan from Reliance Jio will offer 2GB daily data with a validity of 91 days, whereas Airtel’s plan is priced slightly higher at Rs 509, and offers 1.4GB 3G / 4G data with a validity of 90 days.
Clearly, if we look at the plans, Airtel is offering a tough fight to Jio. But if we look at data benefits, Jio still leads the pack. And as is the trend these days, it is only a matter of time before Vodafone and Idea cellular too cut their rates.
