Motorola was split into two companies — Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. As the name suggests, Motorola Mobility is what manufactures smartphones, while Motorola Solutions caters to the Enterprise segment. On August 15, 2011, Google bought Motorola Mobility for around $12.5 billion in cash. With the acquisition, Google is believed to have gained access to more than 17,000 patents, with as many as 10,000 patents believed to be related to mobile communications. In January 2014 however, Google announced that it had Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for just $2.91 billion. Motorola also marked its return to the Indian market in 2014 after a hiatus by launching the Moto G in an exclusive partnership with Flipkart.
