All console gamers hope that one day they will be able to play with their friends who own consoles from other brands. This subject has been addressed many times, but not with the kind of enthusiasm from the console makers and the game developers as the gamers would like it to be.
But now Microsoft and Nintendo has come out and given people high hopes by announcing with a trailer that Minecraft is getting cross-play for Xbox and Nintendo Switch. For the record Microsoft, Nintendo and PC game makers have been the ones up until now who have tried giving cross-platform play a shot, which a lot more than what Sony has done.
And so a game like Fortnite, which is the biggest phenomenon in the gaming world right now, has seen cross-platform play on Switch, Xbox, iOS, and PC. But, PlayStation users have not had the privilege yet to experience this because Sony has made sure to do nothing in this context. And PlayStation players have made their mind known in more than one occasion only for Sony to say that cross-platform will hinder the integrity of its advanced system.
And the new cross-platform play for Minecraft comes as a new step towards this better world. The trailer focuses on how cross-platform play might be the best thing about this amazing game right now. It shows how two people using an Xbox and a Switch can enjoy themselves in the amazing world of Minecraft with a tagline that reads, “Better Together” (a callout to Sony maybe?).
Your move Sony.
