Google Arts & Culture selfies: How to use the app in India to find museum art that resembles you

As of now, the feature is only restricted to the US region, but this small trick will let you try out the new feature in India.

Google has updated its Arts & Culture app with a new feature that allows users to click a selfie, upload it and match it with several art museums worldwide. In short, the new feature lets you find your doppelgänger from the past. It uses computer vision technology to examine similarities between your selfie and thousands of pieces of museum art that were shared with Google – to find your look alike from the world of art.

While the Google’s Arts & Culture app has been around for over a year, the new feature has sort of made it viral. People have been clicking their selfies and sharing the app results on social media. And while some show similarities between the facial structure, others fail miserably. But that hasn’t been a concern for many as they are taking a jab at it with hilarious reactions on social media.

Now, while most of you may be excited to try out the app, there is a small catch here. Being an experimental version, it is region-blocked, and only users in the US can try out the app right now. However, TechCrunch reports that the app also works in other countries with a small trick. We gave it a try, and well it works too.

How to use Google Arts & Culture

Step One

To begin with, head over to Google Play Store and install the Google Arts & Culture app.

Step Two

Download a VPN app from the Play Store. I tried Opera VPN and VPN Master but it has connectivity issues. Then I downloaded Express VPN, and activated the 7-day trial period, and it worked.

Step Three

Start the VPN app and configure it to use ‘US region’ as a location from the available options.

Step Four

Now open the Google Arts & Culture app. (It may ask you to access your location, do not click on allow, as the trick will not work.) Now, scroll down till you see a card that reads “Is your portrait in a museum?” On that card, click on ‘Get Started’ and on the next screen, tap on I accept at the bottom.

Step Five

The app will ask for camera permission to click a photo or record video, give it the required permission. Next, the camera interface will open, just align your face in the frame, and click a photo. Google’s AI will now work in the background and show you the famous artwork from the museum that you resemble. It will present you with four options and to check the rest of the three, you can swipe from right to left.

Well, the procedure is that simple. Do give it a try and let us know how you find Google Arts & Culture app’s new feature in the comment section below.
