The latest entrant into the smartwatch race is HTC. As a part of its new strategy for the year 2014, the struggling Taiwanese company will unveil its first smartwatch at Christmas, Bloomberg reports.
Speaking with the publication, HTC’s Chairman Cher Wang revealed how they were optimistic about the New Year and the strategies they have charted out will help arrest the fall in the company’s revenues. These new strategies involve launching an updated One, which has created quite a buzz in the past few weeks, an improved marketing strategy and as mentioned above, launching a smartwatch.
“Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems.” Wang told Bloomberg. “These are customer-centric problems.” The company plans on overcoming these obstacles and release the wearable device during the busy Christmas period, Wang added.
As far as the marketing strategies are concerned, they will come into effect as soon as the new One is launched. Though HTC hasn’t announced an official date, reports have claimed that the flagship device could be launched sometime in March. Wang mentions how the company hasn’t shied away from spending money on marketing, but they haven’t been smart enough. Last year the company hired Robert Downey Jr. as its ambassador and aired a barrage of ads featuring the actor.
