While we wait for Nokia to launch the Lumia 920 in India later this month, word on the street is that the Finnish handset vendor is already preparing to launch its successor codenamed Catwalk. The device, which will be announced later this year, would feature an aluminum body to make it thinner and lighter than its predecessor, The Verge reports.
According to the report, Nokia is currently planning to launch three more Lumia smartphones this year including the Catwalk, which will be the flagship smartphone. Not much is known about the device apart from Nokia’s departure from polycarbonate plastic and that its guts might resemble that of the Lumia 920.
While next month’s MWC in Barcelona would look like a high-profile platform to announce the device, we are not certain if Nokia would announce a successor to the Lumia 920 this early considering the Lumia 920 is yet to be launched in most of the world. The rumor might dent the sales of the Lumia 920 but we reckon Nokia would probably announce the device at its own annual Nokia World event, which usually happens in September-October time-frame.
Doing that sounds more logical considering the Lumia 920 was also announced about the same time last year and would give it enough time on the shelves to fulfil its destiny. But then stranger things have happened in the past, like when Nokia found itself perched on a burning platform right about this time two years ago.
