Nokia has announced the arrival of its much-awaited Lumia Black update globally. The update first arrives on Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925, with other devices like the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 720, Lumia 625, Lumia 620 and the Lumia 520 following in the coming weeks.
To recap on the new features one would get after updating their devices; the Lumia Black update will bring apps like Nokia Storyteller, Nokia Camera and Nokia Beamer. The Nokia Storyteller app automatically integrates the photos on one’s phone with HERE location information and collates a chronological picture journey on a map. The Nokia Beamer app, on the other hand, lets users project documents, maps, location details or even the camera viewfinder from the phone to an HTML5 enabled screen using QR codes.
The update also brings a new Camera app, which combines the functionality of the Smart Cam and Pro Cam into a single app. One will also be able to use Nokia Refocus (only on devices with 1GB of RAM), which is the company’s Lytro-like technology that lets you change the focus of a photo after it has been clicked. Additionally, the update is also said to improve the camera on all the aforementioned devices, including the Lumia 1020.
The rest of the features arriving with the update Bluetooth LE and Nokia Glance Screen 2.0, which is an improved way of looking at notifications. Nokia is also bringing an ¨App folder¨ feature that lets users to create folders for the homescreen where one can club multiple apps into a single folder. For this, one needs to download the App folder app, which is available here.
As mentioned above, the update has arrived on Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925, and you can head over to Settings -> Phone update to download and install Lumia Black. Nokia says it will come to other Lumia smartphones in coming weeks.
