Research In Motion (RIM) is planning to launch its first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, the Z10 in India in February after unveiling it globally on January 30. This makes India as one of the first countries where a BlackBerry 10 smartphone will be launched. “Globally, we will announce BB10 on January 30. Within two or three weeks, I expect it to come to India. Initially, there will be one device, the flagship model with full touchscreen,” RIM’s India managing director, Sunil Dutt told ToI.

India is one of the few countries where BlackBerry usage is still growing and is a very important market for RIM. We have been hearing that RIM is planning to host a launch event in India in the week of January 30 but the exact date hasn’t been firmed up as yet.

According to a leaked internal document, the BlackBerry Z10 will have a 4.2- inch, 1280×768 HD display, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 1,800 mAh battery. Other specifications include 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras apart from GPS, Wi-Fi and NFC support.

And so it should. Research In Motion will survive thanks to support from the emerging economies, with India at the forefront. Nations where the BlackBerry remains appreciated as a business / commercial and educational tool.

Here in Europe (and the USA) the device is used as a phone only 12% of its operational time and Angry Birds rates higher with the public than secure banking transactions.
