Samsung has confirmed it won’t provide Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update for the first generation Galaxy Tab and the first Galaxy i9000 smartphone. The company cites insufficient memory to handle both ICS and its proprietary TouchWiz UI that runs on top. The Galaxy has a 512MB RAM and 1GHz processor, which is identical to the Google Nexus that can be updated to ICS. Essentially, it is because of TouchWiz that the devices won’t get the latest update. HTC too encountered this problem as many smartphones could not be updated to the latest OS due to its Sense UI. Let us know in comments whether you prefer the stock Android UI found on Google’s Nexus smartphones or customized UI like TouchWiz and Sense.
