Samsung Galaxy S5 gets teardown treatment; iFixit finds it difficult to repair

Samsung-Galaxy-S5-teardown

As Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S5 goes on sale today, it has been through a teardown treatment by iFixit team, which suggests that the phone is tough and cannot be dismantled easily for repair. iFixit had a tough time specially while removing the display off the phone, and gave the phone 5 out of 10 in terms of repairability score.

Going by the teardown, it seems that Samsung could have used a strong adhesive on the display and in order to repair the phone, technicians will have to remove the display first. The back of the phone can easily be removed and like all other Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy S5 too comes with a user replaceable battery. However in order to repair any other component, one will first have to remove the display to reach these parts. Once the display is removed, it becomes easy to take out most of the other components including cameras, headphone jack, vibrator motor and speakers, which are modular and are easy to replace in case required.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is available in India for Rs 51,500. It features Samsung’s Exynos true octa-core processor in India rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 found in other markets, which also supports LTE connectivity. The Samsung Galaxy S5 offers water proofing and also comes with a fingerprint scanner and a heartbeat monitor.
