Samsung Galaxy SII Plus benchmarks seen in the wild, possible MWC launch in the works
Yesterday came the news that the Samsung Galaxy S III launch had been pushed back to a later date at a dedicated event, but that does not mean that Samsung will not showcase a high end smartphone at MWC. Samsung perhaps has pulled an Apple like manoeuvre as reports about a Galaxy S II plus are flooding the cyberspace. An3DBenchXL, a benchmark database for smartphones is showcasing benchmarks for a device marked out as the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus. The benchmarks show that the device is running a 1.5GHz processor.
While we don’t know which processor stack the device packs in, the scores at definitely higher than the Galaxy S II by some margin. One should note that Samsung has a tendency of using different pieces of silicon from different vendors, case in point being the Galaxy Nexus, which packs in a Ti OMAP 1.2GHz chip, while the Galaxy R uses the Nvidia Tegra 2 and the Galaxy S II uses Samsung’s own Exynos processor.
From what we understand the device will be spec-wise identical to the current Galaxy S II expect for the minor bump in the processor spec. Frankly speaking we are not big fans of such an iterative update strategy, as a 0.5GHz bump in processor speed will not do much to improve the user experience. Having said that, such a device makes sense for Samsung as they have done this before with the Galaxy S Plus, which was an upgraded variant of the original Galaxy S. Prospective buyers will do well to stray clear of such a device and not get lulled into Samsung’s strategy. They should rather opt for the Galaxy Nexus or wait on for the Galaxy S III.
