Xiaomi will be selling its third batch of Mi 3 smartphones on August 5 and for a change the Chinese smartphone sensation has revealed the number of smartphones that are available for grabs. According to the vendor, there will be up to 15,000 Mi 3 units that will be put on sale for which it has already received more than 100,000 registrations. It is still accepting registrations that will close at midnight on August 4. The sale will take place at 2:00PM on August 5.

Unlike other brands, interested buyers first have to register with Xiaomi to be eligible to participate in the sale. Only those who register are then allowed to try their luck in buying the smartphone on the sale day. The Xiaomi Mi 3 sold out in under 40 minutes in its first sale and just five seconds the second time. The company hasn’t revealed the number of units available on sale days but announced it had sold 20,000 units over the two sales.

Flipkart changed the process for buying the Mi 3 during the second sale after its website crashed during the first time and many consumers faced difficulties. During the second sale, all that buyers had to do was select the Mi 3 and have it in their cart to be eligible to buy it. They could then make the payment anytime before midnight. This also allowed both Xiaomi and Flipkart to claim the phone was sold out within 5 seconds.

The Xiaomi Mi 3, which is priced at Rs 13,999 boasts features that are available in smartphones priced above Rs 30,000. You can read our review of the Xiaomi Mi 3 here.
