Three of Apple’s senior sales executives are reportedly said to be leaving the company on account of struggling sales and further rearrangements made to its distribution system. The three executives consist of Rahul Puri head of national sales and distribution, Jayant Gupta head of operator business and iPhone sales, and Manish Sharma who was the national sales head of telecom.

According to a report on The Economic Times, the reason for the executives leaving is due to massive rearrangements made to the distribution system, brought in by the company’s new head of India operations Michel Coulomb. The new director plans on only retaining two national distributors, consisting of Ingram Micro and Redington, out of the five Apple already has. The services of the three other distributors, Brightstar, Rashi Peripherals and HCL Infosystems are said to be discontinued by March next year.

With the three senior executives leaving, the company is expected to see further changes in the management, especially in the mid-levels. An industry source told ET, “The company probably wants to cut down multiple management layers since we still do not know the successor for the roles which have become vacant.”

Apple has been struggling with sales in India. According to a Bloomberg report that cites Counterpoint research, the company accounts for two percent market share in the country and has managed to sell about 3.2 million iPhones in 2017. This year the numbers have been lower.

The new head, Michel Coulomb has also been reported to be struggling with his new job in making business relationships in the market. This follows Apple’s continuous struggle to understand the Indian market.

However, Apple now seems headstrong about making an impact in India. The company has boosted its activities in the country by recently starting to manufacturer its mid-range iPhone SE and iPhone 6S models in India. The new distribution strategy is also to approach large retailer and online retailers for sales directly. The company’s new distribution activities will be carried out from its new distribution center setup near Mumbai.
