We are a couple of days away from Diwali, and Twitter too is getting into the festive spirit. Today, the company has announced the launch of an emoji dedicated to the festival of light.
Twitter announced the Diwali emoji with a message – “This year, we’re excited to celebrate the festival of lights with our first ever Diwali emoji! #HappyDiwali.” The emoji features a lit diya, and you can add it to your tweet by using the hashtag #HappyDiwali.
The Diwali emoji is being launched a week after Twitter launched an emoji dedicated to PM Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative. It was the first time a non-US brand got an emoji on Twitter, and you can add the emoji to your tweet by adding the hashtag #MakeinIndia.
This isn’t the first time Twitter has released an India-related emoji. In August, Twitter and Star Sports had launched emojis for the final of Pro Kabaddi with hashtags #ThighFive and #ProKabaddi. On August 15, tweets with hashtag #India featured the tricolor.
While US remains the biggest user base for Twitter, India has been steadily growing in the past couple of years. As per a recent report, Twitter has around 25 million users in India. It has introduced India-related emojis before as well.
