The data war in India’s telecom sector is one free entertainment. Telcos are persistently at each other’s necks to take on each other, and it has mostly been Reliance Jio killing the party for the rest of the companies. However, the game just became more interesting, with Aircel trying to make a clean sweep. Aircel has reportedly launched a new Rs 419 plan, which offers 2GB of data everyday, with a validity of 84 days. This offer competes with Reliance Jio’s Rs 509 plan, which has a validity of only 56 days, and offers 2GB per data as well.
But, as always, these plans come with a fineprint. In this attractive looking Aircel plan, the 2GB data that is being offered, is only at 2G or 3G connectivity. Whereas, Reliance Jio offers 4G data in its comparable Rs 509 plan. Further, the Aircel plan also region-limited, with the availability centered in the North East, as opposed to the pan-India availability of the Jio plan. Also interesting to mention is that while the Aircel plan offers free voice calling to all networks, it does not offer free SMS in the pack. Which means, throughout the validity period, Aircel offers a total of 168GB data, as compared to a total of 112GB offered by Reliance Jio. But, while Aircel’s plan offer 2G/3G speed, Jio offers the Rs 509 plan at 4G speed. So, if you are considering the Aircel plan, it only makes sense for one if, one you live in the North Eastern states, and two, your usage does not demand 4G speed internet. BGR India has also tried to connect with Aircel for confirmation and more details on the plan, we shall update this article with the company’s response.
