Bharti Airtel has launched a new long-validity prepaid plan that will benefit heavy voice-calling focused users. The new plan costs Rs 597 through a prepaid recharge, and offers truly unlimited voice calls, with no fair usage policy (FUP) limit on calls. The plan also comes with 10GB of high-speed (up to 4G) data and up to 100 SMS per day. The validity of the plan is 168 days, which is close to six months in total. This puts the rough cost of the plan at just a little over Rs 100 per month.
The plan is largely focused on users that are looking at more voice calling benefits and SMS, rather than high-speed mobile data. While many operators and plans offer unlimited voice calling, this is usually subject to an FUP limit that prevents users from using the service very heavily. The lack of an FUP on this Airtel plan will appeal to many users, particularly those that use their phones in their profession. Even the high limit of 100 SMS per day will appeal to many users.
The Airtel plan also comes with 10GB of data, which is admittedly low for a period of 168 days. Many plans, particularly from Reliance Jio, now offer benefits of 1GB data per day, which is useful for users that heavily use their smartphones for data-intensive tasks. However, 10GB might be more than enough for users on feature phones, who tend to use their phones for calls and SMS more. Such a plan can therefore be considered to be ideal for feature phone users, who still make up for a large chunk of the mobile users in India.

Similarly, Reliance Jio also offers some long-validity plans, but those plans offer more data benefits apart form calling and SMS. The most affordable long-term plan from Jio costs Rs 999 and is valid for 90 days, offering 60GB of high-speed data (post which data is unlimited with speed throttled to 64kbps), free calls and 100 SMS per day.
