Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ launched in India, priced at Rs 16,999: Specifications, features and comparison


Alcatel One Touch has today launched the Idol X+ smartphone in an exclusive partnership with Flipkart to retail the phone in India. The Idol X+ phone has a 1080p display and boasts the power of an octa-core chipset. The company has announced an exclusive offer on Flipkart, under which a buyer can buy the device off the e-commerce site for Rs 16,999. The company is also bundling a pair of free JBL headphones and a BoomBand with the device.

Talking of specifications, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core chipset with Mali-450MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, it has 16/32GB of internal memory but lacks an external memory support over microSD card.

The phone sports a 13.1-megapixel rear camera, which is capable of recording 1080p videos, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options include of dual-SIM slot with 3G network support on one SIM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS/AGPS. The phone has a 2,500mAh battery.

At this price point and with these specifications, the phone will be up against Micromax Canvas Knight A350which comes with similar specifications. Apart from Micromax’s, the phone will also be up against the likes of the Intex Aqua Octa, and the recently launched Panasonic P81. Yesterday, even Philips announced its octa-core phone which will come to the market soon.

Specifications-wise, Micromax’s Canvas Knight A350 comes with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, and runs on 2GHz MediaTek MTK6592 octa-core chipset with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Like the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+, this device too lacks microSD card support. In terms of photography, Micromax’s device comes with a higher resolution 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-meagpixel front-facing camera, while the Idol X+ has a 13.1-megapixel rear and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper. The Canvas Knight A350 is priced at Rs 19,999.

The Intex Aqua Octa comes with a huge 6-inch HD 720p display with one glass solution. It runs on a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Also, Intex’s phone comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded further by using a microSD card. On the photography front, it sports a 13-meagpixel rear camera and a 5-meagpixel front camera. The phone is priced at Rs 19,999, but can be purchased at a discounted price online.

The Panasonic P81, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch HD 720p display and is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek true octa-core chipset coupled with a lower 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and is upgradeable to 4.4 KitKat, though the company hasn’t given any timeline of when the update will come. The phone is priced at Rs 18,990.
