If buying a standalone Kindle device is not in your budget, you can consider installing the newly launched Kindle Lite app by Amazon. The app has been launched with the Indian internet infrastructure in consideration and supports seamless reading experience even on slower networks.
The Kindle Lite app is free and weighs just 2MB. Currently, it is available only for Android and we can expect it to roll out to iOS as well. The app has been designed to support smartphone reading, which is gaining pace owing to the large-screen concept adopted by a majority of device makers.
The lite app allows you to shop and read from a collection of over 5 million ebooks available in regional languages including Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, in addition to Hindi and English. The app also includes 30,000 free ebooks.
It further provides personalized recommendations and supports Whispersync that lets you sync your ebooks across devices. For the first month, Amazon is offering Kindle Lite users 80 percent cashback with Amazon Pay for their first ebook purchase on the app.
The light app is said to download under a minute on the smartphone owing to its small size. With the app, you don’t need to wait for the ebook to download completely to start reading. If the reading is interrupted, the app saves your last reading session and you can resume from where you left off. The app also allows you to monitor your data usage on Wi-Fi or mobile networks.
Kindle Lite app is available on Google Play Store for free and is compatible with smartphones running Android 4.4 and above.
