Amazon has started selling its Kindle range of ebook readers and tablets in India today. The world’s largest online retail store had started taking pre-orders for Kindles in India earlier this month and these are now available on Amazon’s India store as well as many brick-and-mortar electronic retail chains across the country from today onwards. Amazon has tied up with Redington to distribute Kindles in India. On its online store, which is a fulfilment center, the Kindles would be sold by Tata’s Croma Retail. Last year Amazon had tied up with Croma Retail for selling the basic versions of Kindle.
The Kindle Fire HD 7-inch model will be available for Rs 15,999 (16GB) and Rs 18,999 (32GB) while the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch model will be available at a price of Rs 21,999 (16GB) and Rs 25,999 (32GB). The store will also retail Kindle Paperwhite which will be available in both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 3G models. It offers up to 8 weeks of battery life and will be priced for Rs 10,999 for Wi-Fi only and Rs 13,999 for Wi-Fi + 3G version. The fifth generation Kindle ebook reader was already available for Rs 5,999.
