Android One smartphones have just been launched in India and they promise to bring a top-class smartphone experience at affordable prices. All the three smartphones from Spice, Karbonn and Micromax, have 4GB of internal storage out of which less than 2.3GB is available to users. That much storage should be enough to at least start using the smartphone but it turns out that users will have to buy a microSD card even if the available internal storage is unused.

We tried Android One smartphones from Spice and Karbonn and were unable to click photographs unless we inserted a microSD card into the phone. What’s worse is you cannot even take screenshots or download photos or any other media you receive on WhatsApp or any other service.

Currently Spice is the only smartphone vendor that is offering an 8GB microSD card along with the device. Google might have put this limitation to ensure there is enough space for apps and software updates in the internal storage. However, with this condition in place, we expect all Android One smartphones to come with a microSD card inside the box.

UPDATE: Micromax too is giving away an 8GB microSD card with its Canvas A1 Android One smartphone.
