Thursday brought with it the first developer preview of the highly anticipated Android P OS. While we don’t know if it will be called Payasam or Peda, our survey results favored Pie as the chosen moniker today. From Google to Apple, the mocked first loved later notch design is apparently still a design flaw for the company which is reportedly looking at a truly bezel-less smartphone in the next year.

Huawei’s upcoming P20 series leaked again today, alongside the benchmark scores of OnePlus 6. Meanwhile, Oppo put up a video of its R15 smartphone on its official website. The smartphone, with the famed notch design, will debut on March 12. Here’s an overview of the top news of the day.

Google Android P Developer Preview 1

Android P, which will be commercially rolled out in the next set of Pixel smartphones later this year, today was embraced by the developer community who got to taste the sweet treat in its first preview version. The Android 9.0 P brings a range of interesting new features, however, the most interesting one is perhaps the native support for the notch or cut-out design. The feature will allow your future apps to be compatible with the new age ‘notch phones’. Other improvements come in the form of Material Design, minimalistic notifications, and indoor navigation.

No Notch for iPhones in 2019

It is only last year that Apple introduced another industry-first notch design on its iPhone X. The design element makes it possible for manufacturers to thin down the top bezel by crunching the front camera and sensors in a small opening. However, latest reports indicate the company is now looking at further bringing a truly bezel-less display experience by eliminating even that small notch on the top. As per the report, Apple wants the screen to completely fill the front of new iPhones. Now, how the company does that remains to be seen.

Huawei P20 series leaked again

As we near the launch of the Huawei P20 series on March 27, leaks around the smartphones are becoming a routine. In the latest leaks today, images of the P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite highlighted the ‘notch’ on all three variants. While all P20 and P20 Lite include a dual-camera setup at the back, the P20 Pro features the rumored triple camera setup. The P20 Lite differs from the other two with its fingerprint sensor which is located at the back, while the other two have it on the front.

OnePlus 6 benchmark scores leaked

OnePlus 6 is expected to add to the premium line of smartphones this year. The smartphone is expected to launch in June and the rumor mill is abuzz with leaks around the flagship model. In the latest, the AnTuTu scores of the smartphone have been revealed. OnePlus 6 scored 2,76,510 on the tests, the highest recorded on AnTuTu yet, it is said to be higher than that of Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi MIX 2s which will be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC. It is expected the OnePlus 6 will pack 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage.

Oppo R15 official video

Oppo will launch its R15 series on March 12 and ahead of that, the company has detailed a couple of features of the upcoming smartphone on its China website. To begin with, the Oppo R15 will also pack a notch on the top and a video, the multitasking capabilities with the notch design have been highlighted. The R15 will be accompanied with a Dream Mirror R15 edition.
