Yet another day draws to an end. The day started with Apple rolling out iOS 11.2.1 update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. After Apple, Google also announced that its voice-based virtual assistant will make way to smartphones running Android 5.0 Lollipop. Later in the day we also saw Samsung launching lightweight and updated Notebook 9-series for 2018. Let’s take a close look at how the day turned out to be.

iOS 11.2.1 update rolled out

Apple rolled out iOS 11.2.1 update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, as well as tvOS 11.2.1 update for the Apple TV. iOS 11.2.1 is available to download on iPhone 5s and later iPhones, iPad Air and later. The iOS 11.2.1 update comes 10 days after Apple had released iOS 11.2. It focuses on fixing a few bugs, most notably the HomeKit vulnerability. With the latest update, Apple has fixed this vulnerability.

Google Assistant coming to tablets, older Android smartphones

Google’s voice-based virtual assistant is making its way to smartphones running Android 5.0 Lollipop and tablets running Android 7.0 Nougat and 6.0 Marshmallow. The update will only be available to users who set their language to English in the US, the UK, India, Australia, Canada, and Singapore, as well as to those who have set their default language to Spanish in the US, Mexico, and Spain. Google says it will also roll out to users in Italy, Japan, Germany, Brazil, and Korea.

Reliance Jio moves phone production to India

Reliance Jio Infocomm is reportedly shifting production of its 4G feature phone to India to overcome supply related issues at its Chinese vendor’s facility. Reliance Jio has engaged an undisclosed vendor in Chennai to make its flagship phone. Reliance Jio initially produced 6 million devices in China. In July, Mukesh Ambani had said production of Jio phones in India would start in the last quarter of the year.

Google Maps Go launched

After recently launching its Files Go app at ‘Google for India’, the search giant has now announced Go version of its popular Maps. Google is calling it the Google Maps Go. The ‘Go’ version of the Google Maps app, has been optimized to work on Android-powered smartphones with less RAM. The app will work on smartphones with 512 MB or 1GB RAM.

Samsung updates its Notebook 9 laptop

Samsung has updated its Notebook 9 series from 2017 with Intel’s 8th generation Core i7 chips. Samsung has unveiled three new models. Samsung has introduced several Notebook 9 2018 models, consisting of the updated 13.3-inch and 15-inch notebooks, plus a new 13-inch foldable Notebook 9 Pen 2-in-1, which comes with an S Pen slot next. All the Notebooks have a magnesium-aluminum chassis. The products will be showcased during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 that will be held in Las Vegas in early January.

SEBI orders probe on WhatsApp

Recently, price-sensitive financial data of a dozen listed Indian companies happened to be circulating on WhatsApp groups much before they were made available in public domain. Now, SEBI has ordered a probe into the data leak. India’s market regulator is “seriously” looking into the issue. SEBI also plans to ask for call data records of all the people involved in circulating those messages before official announcements. As part of the probe, it could also look into trading records of these people, sources said.
