Apple iOS 11.4 is available for download right now on iPhones and iPads. Apple released the update only a week before its WWDC annual event. The new update brings in all the features Apple had promised at last year’s WWDC event, such as Messages in iCloud and AirPlay 2. Along with that, the new update also brings in a set of other features and few other bug fixes pending from the previous update.

iOS users should get the notification on their iPhones and iPads to update their devices. However, if you’ve missed it you can go to the “General” tab in the settings app and click on “Software Update”.

iOS 11.4 features

Messages in iCloud

This has been a long-awaited feature. The new update will allow users to store their messages, photos and other attachments on iCloud and free up space on their devices. All the messages in the new iCloud feature sync across devices and also appear the moment you sign into a new device. Subsequently, if you delete a message on your iPhone, it will also get deleted on other iOS devices and vice-versa.

AirPlay 2

With the help of Airplay 2, Apple has added support for multi-room and stereo pairing for the Apple TV and HomePod. This means you can play music at the same time on multiple speakers that are compatible with AirPlay 2. Speakers can be controlled from the Control Center on the device or with the help of voice commands using Siri. Lastly, AirPlay 2 will also allow you to take a call on your iPhone, without interrupting the playback on the speakers. At the moment, only Apple TV and HomePod are AirPlay 2 enabled, but more devices are said to be coming soon.

ClassKit Support

The new update also adds support for Apple’s new ClassKit framework. This helps developers make educational apps that can function with Apple’s Schoolwork app. The Schoolwork app is designed for teachers to hand out assignments and information, while also keeping a track of every student’s progress.

Watch: Apple iPhone X Review

Besides these, the iOS 11.4 also comes with a bunch of smaller bug fixes and improvements. The new update also seems to carry new Red Wallpapers for the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Red edition phones. Apple will be hosting its WWDC on 4 June, where the company will be introducing the new iOS 12, and if rumors are right, three new iPhones.
