Yesterday we exclusively reported about Apple’s plans to launch the iPad mini in India in coming weeks and now we have some more details to go along with out initial report. According to multiple sources, the iPad mini is likely to be priced at Rs 21,900 for the base 16GB Wi-Fi only model.
At the moment we do not have information about the pricing of the 32GB and 64GB variants but typically Apple follows a price gap of Rs 6,000 between variants. If Apple follows the same with the iPad mini, we would be looking at Rs 27,900 and Rs 33,900 for the 32GB and 64GB iPad mini variants respectively. Currently, the iPad 2 is available for Rs 24,500 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version and Rs 32,900 for the 16GB Wi-Fi+cellular version.
Apple is unlikely to have the Wi-Fi+cellular version of the iPad mini or will have very limited units available at the time of launch, which could happen as early as next week but could be pushed by a couple of weeks. The cellular version of iPad mini has just started shipping in countries where Apple has already launched the iPad mini and it is said to be in short supply at the moment. Even the Wi-Fi only version is expected to have limited stocks initially, just like it was the case with the iPhone 5.
In contrast, Asus is selling the Nexus 7 in India for slightly less than Rs 20,000. When compared to the Nexus 7, the iPad mini seems to be very competitively priced considering the premium design and finish as well as taking into account the apps ecosystem.
