Apple iPhone X’s highlight, the Face ID, is coming to the iPads too, another analyst suggests. According to Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang, Apple iPad Pro will feature Face ID, and will likely be released in the second quarter of 2018. The next-gen iPads are likely to be unveiled at WWDC 2018 scheduled for June 4-8 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

Zhang expects the new iPad Pro to come with slimmer bezels and no home button, essentially on the lines of iPhone X. He believed the new design will dorn both the upcoming 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros. While the reaffirmation only helps, this is not the first time we hear about the iPad Pro coming with Face ID. Sometime ago, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also revealed that Apple will refresh the iPad line in 2018, and will feature Face ID. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was a bit more specific, noting the iPad Pro with Face ID would debut “a little more than a year” after the current models.

From what the expert speculate and rumors suggest, the new iPad Pro models will retain LCDs, instead of going entirely the iPhone X-way and adopt OLED displays. Reportedly, that choice is also due to supply, cost, and technological constraints. Although it is still a 50-50 on whether the tablets will sport a notch for the TrueDepth sensor housing or slim bezels on all four sides with enough room for the components.

A MacRumor report mentions a supply chain report out of China, which claimed that “the new iPad Pro models will be faster, thanks to an octa-core A11X Bionic chip with three high-performance “Monsoon” cores and five energy-efficient “Mistral” cores.”

Also, while there is no official word regarding the pricing, reports suggest that the new iPad Pro lineup will likely cost more than the current 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models. Since the new models won’t have OLED displays, however, the price increase might not be substantial.
