As expected, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook today took the wraps off the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in San Francisco. While Cook wouldn’t mention an India launch date, the Apple India website was almost immediately updated with a launch date. As per the website, the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be going on sale from October 7.
By going on sale on October 7, this would be up there with the quickest of iPhones launches in India post a global unveiling. Earlier this year, Apple unveiled the iPhone SE on March 22, and it went on sale in India from April 8. Not only does this prove how important India is for Apple, but is also clear how the company wants the new iPhones to be available well in time for the shopping frenzy during Diwali. Amid slowing sales globally, iPhone sales continue to grow in India. During the Q3 earnings this year, Tim Cook said that India continued to show ‘double-digit’ growth in iPhone sales, and ‘healthy growth’ in revenues.
Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus specifications
The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus may not look a whole lot different at first glance, but Apple said time and again that it is a completely new design. Though the size remains the same, the display on the new iPhones are much better, while under the hood is the new A10 Fusion 64-bit quad-core chipset. Apple says that the processor offers up to 40 percent better performance, and up to 50 percent better graphic performance.
While both iPhones come with better cameras, the highlight is the dual-camera setup on the iPhone 7 Plus. The camera is capable of shooting great photos in low light, and is also a capable portrait shooter offering DSLR-like bokeh effect. Other talking points include water resistant capabilities, as well as the absence of the century-old 3.5mm audio jack. Apple is bundling a pair of new EarPods with Lightning connector as well as a Lightning-3.5mm adapter. It also introduced a pair of wireless AirPods, which will be sold separately.
On the storage front, the new iPhones will be available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB variants. Needless to say, the new smartphones run on iOS 10 out-of-the-box, whereas other smartphone users will be able to updated from September 13.
