Some Apple iPhone 7 devices are being affected by an issue that causes a ‘No Service’ message to display in the status bar even when the network is available. For the impacted users, Apple has now initiated a repair program to fix the faulty logic board component which is causing the issue.

On its support page, Apple acknowledges that issue saying a “small percentage” of the iPhone 7 units are affected which were manufactured between September 2016 and February 2018. These units were sold in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, and the US.

According to an Apple Insider report, users affected by the issue complained that their iPhone 7 entered an unusable state after switching out of Airplane Mode. Some believed the problem was related to the incorrect placement of the SIM card.

Apple says three iPhone 7 model numbers are eligible for the repair program. The model numbers are A1660 and A1780 sold in China, model number A1660 sold in Hong Kong, Macao, and the US (includes Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands), and model number A1779 sold in Japan.

If you purchased the iPhone 7 from these regions, you can check the model number at the bottom of the rear panel of the device for eligibility. It is to be noted that Apple may restrict or limit repair service to the original country or region of purchase. For affected devices, Apple will be providing repairs free of charge. The company will first examine your iPhone 7 prior to any service to verify the eligibility.

Apple will contact customers via email who may have paid for the fix related to the ‘No Service’ issue in order to reimburse them the cost. If you are one of the customers who has paid for such repair work but does not receive any email from Apple by the end of March 2018, you are encouraged to contact Apple.

It is worth mentioning that wireless carrier partners are not participating in this program and the program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 7. Before sending the affected unit for the repair, it is advisable to back up all the data on your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud.
