Apple‘s upcoming flagship for 2017, dubbed as the iPhone 8, is going to be special as the company is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year and the pressure on Apple to innovate is high. With more than four months to go for the iPhone 8 launch, there have been regular leaks surrounding the device. From the design to the display, we’ve read about it all. And now, finally, BGR gives us a first look as to the final design of the upcoming Apple flagship.
The iPhone 8 design confirms to most the rumors we have heard. It is not very different from previous renders though there are certain changes. The design leaked through a rough initial dummy model through one of Apple’s manufacturing plants all over the world though the exact source is not cited by BGR. The design gives us a complete look at all the external features of the upcoming smartphone.
The design leak solves the biggest mystery of them all – that of the home button. There have long since been rumors of Apple doing away with the home button on the iPhone 8 and instead, embedding the TouchID sensor in the bottom half of the display. However, another report claimed that Apple would do away with the home button but simply switch the TouchID to the back of the device. The leaked images finally show that Apple will stick to the Micro-LED display formula and embed the TouchID under the display. The back of the device remains bare except for the camera module. Apple iPhone 8 will be relatively larger than previous generation devices. The phone comes with a 2.5D curved screen on the front and the back. The screens are held together by a stainless steel mid-frame. The slightly curved display is in keeping with the recent patent granted to Apple which approved of a device with “slimmer bezels”. Apple iPhone 8 does not do away with bezels entirely. The mock-up model shows the phone in black continuing Apple’s Jet Black craze.
On the rear of the device is the camera set-up which is vertical. Apple is expected to retain the dual camera setup with optical zoom for iPhone 8. Teh camera bump protrudes out and is pretty bulky. The cut-out will also house the flash and a microphone for 3D audio. Other details regarding the camera remain sketchy. However, the vertical setup will most likely be accompanied by additional features. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the device. The placement of all other keys remains standard. Apple is gearing up for WWDC 2017 presently where the giant will announce new software updates and a new upgraded line of Mac devices. Apart from iPhone 8, which is the anniversary special edition, Apple is also expected to announce iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone SE (2017). While iPhone 8 will be a premium phone (priced upwards $1000), the others will be relatively cheaper models. Manufacturers have reportedly started production of A11 chips that will power iPhone 8. A delay in production led to speculations of a late launch though the issue has now been resolved and Apple is expected to keep the timeline of September for the device launch.
