This one was first reported yesterday (US time), which makes us a bit suspicious whether it is just another prank. But then anything related to Steve Jobs and a movie on his life is just too big to ignore. Variety magazine is claiming that Hollywood heartthrob Ashton Kutcher will play Steve Jobs in the late Apple co-founder’s biopic. The report also claims that Joshua Michael Stern of Swing Vote fame will be directing and Matt Whiteley will be writing the script.
The movie is slated to chronicle Steve Jobs’ early hippie days to being the co-founder of Apple and so forth. On the whole, it is not very clear how much of Jobs role as CEO of Apple in the post iMac era will be covered.
Jeff Sneider, the writer who published the story has gone out on Twitter to ratify the authenticity of the story. He tweeted “ do you REALLY think the top Variety brass & my editors would let me post an APRIL FOOL’S DAY joke on the homepage?” Hopefully he is not bluffing.
Previously, Steve Jobs was portrayed by Noah Wyle in the Pirates of the Silicon Valley in 1999, which was made for TV, independent movie based on the development of the PC and it chronicled the rivalry between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Of course, as it was released in 1999, the movie did not take into account Apple’s second coming, which began with the iPod. Notably, Wyle even made an appearance at the MacWorld Expo in 1999 with Jobs who thought Wyle’s portrayal of him was satisfactory.
