After its Zenfone 4 series, Asus is now ready to get more of the Zenfone 3 series on board with the Android Oreo update. As confirmed by Asus Malaysia via a tweet, the Zenfone 3 Laser, Zenfone 3 Zoom and Zenfone 3 Deluxe smartphones will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of March. Specific date for release has not been revealed yet.
Since some Zenfone smartphones have different hardware configurations depending on regions, the model numbers eligible for the update are Asus Zenfone 3 Laser (ZC551KL), Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom (ZE553KL), and Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe (ZS550KL). Up till now Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Max, and Zenfone 4 Pro have been upgraded to the new operating system.
The changelog is expected to brings improvement to power consumption and add long screenshot function. The Zenfone 3 smartphones are also expected to get the Cast function, which acts as substitute for the PlayTo function.
The Android 8.0 Oreo first started rolling out for Pixel and Nexus smartphones in August last year. Since the release of the operating system, Google has also released an incremental update in the form of Android 8.1 Oreo. In over six months of its rollout, the new version of the operating system still runs on only one percent of active Android devices. Android Nougat and Marshmallow remain the most widely used version of Android.
Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones are the latest smartphones to join the Android Oreo league. The South Korean company is also rolling out the update for the Galaxy S8 duo, while the release of Oreo for the Galaxy Note 8 is reportedly scheduled for March 30.
