Asus took wraps off a camera-centric smartphone called the ZenFone Zoom at CES 2015. While the smartphone was recently released in China and Taiwan, it is yet to see the light of the day in other markets. Asus has now announced that it will be launching a camera-centric smartphone in India, later this month, which is most likely to be the ZenFone Zoom.
The company claims that it is one of the thinnest smartphones to come equipped with a 3X optical zoom. Last month, the company released a global promo showing off the ZenFone Zoom’s camera setup. It sports a 13-megapixel SmartFSI sensor comprising of 10 lenses – four aspherical glasses, four glass lenses and two prism lenses.
To compensate the handshake and keep blurry photos away, the ZenFone Zoom is equipped with optical image stabilization. It also features laser auto-focus, which can focus on the object within 0.03 seconds. The ZenFone Zoom also has a physical shutter and video recording button on the edge, just like a point-and-shoot digital camera.
Asus ZenFone Zoom specifications and features: it flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS display and is powered by Intel’s Atom quad-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with two onboard storage options – 64GB/128GB. A microSD card slot is also present for further expansion.
Besides the 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie camera is also present. With a 3,000mAh battery, connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and GPS. In China, ZenFone Zoom 64GB and 128GB variants are priced at CNY 2,799 (approximately Rs 28,145) and CNY 3,199 (approximately Rs 32,500). However, pricing and availability details are scarce at the moment, but we will keep you posted as Asus officially launches the smartphone in India, later this month.
