Belkin Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater for the iPad launched

So, CES has not even officially started, but the new products have started to pop up thick and fast. This time around we have the Belkin Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater for the iPad, which basically is a thick and bulky iPad cover that adds a solid speaker system, a battery, and a stand, to your favorite tablet. Belkin will make two models, one for the old 30-pin connector and one for the new lightning connector enabled fourth generation iPad. All this will be available for a not so cheap $199 (Rs 10,813) starting February in the US.

The Speaker in particular is the big draw, considering the iPad packs in a rather tinny little speaker that is bereft of any bass and spits out shrill treble frequencies that would make people wince. Belkin has created a complimentary iPad app so that the user can control the sound of the Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater and tune it.

$199 – whoa! Quite a price to pay for speakers actually. Basically, the gadget’s USP lies in the speaker and people will get some other good speaker for far less.
